Sabah’s fate in own hands
KOTA KINABALU: Sabah Football Association (Safa) acting President Datuk Peter Anthony (pic) said Sabah Tambadaus’ fate in winning promotion at the end of the season is in their own hands heading into the last eight games of the Premier League season.

“The remaining eight matches will be very decisive. We are in a position right now where we can determine our own fate whether we can achieve our target of getting promotion into the Super League next season.

“If we are able to collect enough points in the remaining matches then we do not have to worry about other teams,” he said on Thursday.

As the promotion race is getting intensified, Peter called on his players to stay focused and that they must have the will to win in every game.

“We know the competition is getting tougher with only slim margin separating all the promotion hopefuls at the top, so it is very important that each of our players need to possess a winning mentality.

“I want them to treat every match like a final and I believe this team will have the ability to achieve the target at the end of the season.

“The management, coaches and players, all have done their job well so far.

“The team must continue to have the self-belief and to be consistent in their remaining matches in order to achieve the dream,” he added.

The team will be taking on Penang tomorrow away at the City Stadium and a win will definitely give them a major boost.

They are currently lying in third place with 24 points, two behind UiTM and one adrift of JDT II, but have a match in hand against both teams.

Terengganu FC II are one spot below in fourth place with 22 points but have played a game more, while Negeri Sembilan who will be Sabah’s next opponents at home on June 15 are in fifth place with 19 points.
