KENINGAU: The public should be able to censor information in social media in order not to be easily influenced by rumours. State Infrastructure Development Minister Datuk Peter Anthony said no doubt there is so much information on social media for viewing and general knowledge by various parties, some are meant to mislead the community.
However, Peter said that society needs to evaluate and filter the information received and not accept them 100 per cent as truth.

“With the availability of information and communication technology facilities such as social media, it is quite easy for those who are irresponsible to spread slander to bring down someone or a particular party,” he said.
He said while not preventing the public from believing news or information, the people need to be able to filter and get legitimate news from the right source.
“Young people especially should be smart enough to filter the news especially bad things.
“If it is not good then they need not be involved or influenced,” he said in opening the Sook Kaamatan Festival at the Sook Community Hall on Sunday.
