Two habitual addicts get jail and rotan

Kota Kinabalu: Two local men, who had conviction records for taking drugs were each sentenced to five years jail and ordered given a stroke of the cane for committing similar offence.Nasib Norajim, 44, and Vincent Lee Chee Choi, 28, pleaded guilty respectively before Judge Ummu Kalthom Abd Samad to taking Amphetamine and Syabu at 11am on March 17, 2018 and at 4.45pm on April 4, this year, respectively.

Each had two conviction records for similar offence.
They were charged under Section 15 (1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 and read together with Section 39C (1)(a) of the same Act, which carries a jail term of between five and seven years and not more than three strokes of the rotan, upon conviction.
Both Nasib and Lee, who were unrepresented, requested for leniency.
Deputy Public Prosecutor Adibah Saiful Bahri urged for a deterrent sentence due to seriousness of the offence.

Nasib was ordered to serve the sentence from Friday while Vincent’s sentence was ordered to run from the date of his arrest.
They were also ordered to be placed under police supervision for two years after serving their sentences.

In another case, a 24-year-old woman was charged with having 31.90gm of syabu.
Siti Sarah Koriun was accused of committing the offence at 11pm on Dec 23, 2018 at Jalan Gaya Gersik, Labuan.
