Sabah Electricity Sdn Bhd (SESB) has attended to the electricity poles at a Manggatal village, some of which were found to be bending over dangerously.A spokeswoman for the company said a check revealed that the uneven terrain where the poles were planted had made it difficult for some of these structures to remain upright.ADVERTISEMENT
“A stay wire was put in place to minimise the possibility of them toppling over again,” she said.
The spokeswoman apologised, on behalf of the company, for any inconvenience caused.
MENJAH, who lives in Kg Numbak, expressed his concerns about the hazards posed by one of the poles which he said looked as if it could fall over at any time.
He said the pole had gradually started to bend over, as the earth in which the structure was planted in had begun to give way.ADVERTISEMENT
He voiced his concerns about the electrocution-hazard posed by the electricity cables supported by the pole.
“The cables are hanging down because the pole is no longer erect,” he said.

“Some sections of the overhead lines are almost touching the road in front of my house.”
Menjah claimed to have made multiple reports to SESB since he first realised the pole was slanting last year.
“At one stage, I saw some men, whom I assumed were from the firm, photographing the pole but the problem has not been corrected since.”
He was at a loss to understand why the firm’s staff had delayed attending to this report.
“If the pole collapses and damages my property, or hurts a passer-by, will the company accept responsibility for this mishap?Stay up-to-date by following Daily Express’s Telegram channel.

“There are many children who pass the pole on their way to their school. Any one of these innocents might easily come to harm.”
Menjah provided Hotline with the location of the pole in question. This information was forwarded to SESB. (SS)
