SANDAKAN: The marine police here arrested a 38-year-old man and a 12-year-old boy – both Filipinos – and seized from them 12.70gm of methamphetamine worth RM850, Friday morning.

Sabah Marine Police (Region 4) Commander ACP Mohamad Pajeri Ali said both were arrested during “Ops Pensura” around 10am at the Sungai Tinosan Mile 7 area.

“The operation was a result of intelligence by the Sandakan Marine Intelligence Unit.

“A marine police team saw a suspicious boat moving towards Sungai Tinosan. During inspection, 12.70gm of methamphetamine was found on both suspects,” said Pajeri.

The drugs, a mobile phone and the boat with its outboard engine were seized and together with the suspects were brought to Sandakan Narcotic Investigation Division for further action.

The case will be investigated under Section 39(a)(1) the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, which carries a jail term up to five years and up to nine strokes of the cane, on conviction.  Meanwhile, Pajeri said the marine police are now assisting the Sandakan Narcotic Investigation Division to trace several other individuals involved in drug activities in the district.

“We believe the activities are run by a syndicate who stored and sold drugs to addicts not only in Sandakan but also in nearby districts,” he added.
