LABUAN: For any orphan, the sight of seeing other children enjoying Hari Raya with their loved ones can be painful at times.Having lost their mother or father, they may not have the opportunity of sharing the love and care with parents.

Realising their plight, the Malay Vehicle Importers and Traders Association of Malaysia (Pekema) Labuan President Mazlan Datuk Mohd Din decided to organise a programme to give them a wholesome Hari Raya Aidilfitri experience.
Called the “Jom Shopping Raya Bersama Anak Yatim Labuan” programme, Mazlan spent time with orphans from around the 10 villages at Utama Jaya shopping mall, on Saturday.
The children were given RM200 each in contribution to shop for clothes and shoes to experience Hari Raya shopping.
“This is the third year we had this shopping spree for orphans chosen from the 20 villages,” Mazlan said.

“We all have gone through this during our childhood...children will always get excited when doing Hari Raya shopping.
“Some of these orphans have not experienced this at all and this is why we brought them here to feel what Hari Raya is all about. “They may not be able to feel the love of a father or mother during Hari Raya, so we take the responsibility to keep them happy,” he said.

“It was so happy to see the smiles on their faces…this is the least we could do to make their Hari Raya experience a merry one,” said PKR Labuan Wanita Chief Dayang Rusimah Rainey Datuk Mohd Din, who also joined the programme.
Mazlan and Rayney followed the children and suggested what clothes and shoes to buy for Hari Raya.

Pushing their baskets with eagerness, many of the children were seen getting traditional clothes like baju Melayu, baju kurung and traditional robes.
There were also some who decided to go contemporary by getting themselves shirts, tees and casual shoes.
