Disabled man fined for theft

KOTA KINABALU: A disabled man who was hungry was fined RM100 or a day’s jail by the Magistrate’s Court, here Wednesday for having stolen merchandise from the supermarket.
Ismail Mann pleaded guilty before Magistrate Jessica Ombou Kakayun for having a packet of coconut biscuit, a pack of coconut milk, a packet of macaroni and three bars of soap at 10.20am, on May 21, at Istana Ayam Tua supermarket, in Tanjung Aru.

Ismail, who unrepresented in mitigation requested a lenient of sentence as he is currently unemployed due to his disability on his right hand and also having hearing problem.
He admit to commit the offence because he need to feed his stomach and informed the court that he did received help as an disabled. Jessica advised Ismail to not repeat his offence again and keep on trying to look for another job.
Ismail was charged under Section 22A (1) of Minor Offences Ordinance Sabah which provides a maximum fine of RM100 or jail of up to three months, on conviction.

In the same court, a six-month pregnant woman was jailed eight month for taking drug. Marlina Arsid pleaded guilty committing the offence for taking drug this year.

Marlina, who was unrepresented in her mitigation requested for a lenient fine as she is currently unemployed and unmarried yet.
