Bid to smuggle out gas cylinders foiled
TAWAU: A speedboat trying to smuggle out 10 gas cylinders to a neighbouring country was detained by marine police during “Op Gelora Khas” at Sg Aji Kuning waters at 9pm on Friday.

Sabah Marine Police (Region 4) Commander ACP Mohamad Pajeri Ali said a 27-year-old local man was also arrested for carrying the five Petronas gas cylinders and five MyGazz gas cylinders weighing 16.5kg each.

“The suspect failed to show any document or approval letter from the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs (KPNDHEP) pertaining to the gas cylinders on his boat,” he said.

The suspect and the gas cylinders worth RM1,800 as well as the speedboat with its Yamaha 40 horsepower outbound engine valued of RM17, 000 were detained for further investigation.

Mohamad Pajeri said the case was being investigated under Section 21 of the Control of Supply Act read together with Article 3(1) of the Control of Supply Regulations 1974.
