Three killed in accidents
KOTA BELUD: Three people were killed in separate incidents here and in Tawau from Tuesday till Friday – two of them motorcyclists.

In the first tragedy, a man was killed while two others sustained serious injuries when a Kia Spectra collided with a four-wheel drive at jalan Ulu Kukut, on Tuesday.

Mohd Fakri Awang, 22, was confirmed dead at the scene while Fazrul Azha Ashiri, 21, sustained serious injuries and is being treated at hospital Kota Belud.

The 4WD Isuzu D-max motorist, Joe Walker Kinsun, 38, was also injured and warded at hospital Kota Marudu.

District Fire and Rescue Department Chief Rozlan Osman said, five personnel were at the scene with a fire engine and Emergency Medical Rescue Service (EMRS) van after being alerted.

They found two victims pinned in front of the Kia Spectra. “The firefighter extricated the victim by using hydraulic equipment. However one was confirmed dead at the scene.

“Over 50 vehicles stopped at the scene to help the victims,” he said. Police were also at the scene to help and manage traffic flow.

Also in Kota Belud the following day, a 25-year-old was killed when his motorcycle collided with a Perodua Kenari at Jalan Kompleks Sukan Botong.

District Police Chief Supt Mohd Zaidi Abdullah said preliminary investigation found the Kenari was driven by a 37-year-old woman with a male passenger heading from Pekan Kota Belud to Jalan Kompleks Sukan Botong, Rizal Lerry Jesferi from Kg Talungan sustained serious injuries on his neck in the noon tragedy.

“The Kenari turned turtle while the motorcycle crashed into a concrete fence,” he said.

“The Kenari motorist sustained minor injuries on her chin while the passenger was escaped unhurt,” he said.

According to Zaidi, the victim had no motorcycle licence and the case is investigated under Section 41 (1) of the Road Transport Act (APJ) 1987.

In TAWAU, a 41-year-old factory supervisor was killed while his pillion rider suffered serious injuries after the high-powered Kawasaki motorcycle they were riding rammed behind a Proton Waja driven by a Universiti Malaysia Sabah student at Mile 5 Apas Road, Thursday night.

 Vincent Poon Kar Fatt died on the spot. His 29-year-old pillion rider was sent for treatment at Tawau hospital. Acting District Police Chief Supt Nor Azizulkifli Mansor said both were riding without a helmet.

“The victim lost control of the motorcycle and crashed behind the Proton Waja. The impact caused him to be thrown six metres,” he said. Blood samples were taken from the victims for alcohol test.

The case is being investigated under Section 41)1)(A) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
