‘Labuan Ketuas are happy with allowance’
LABUAN: Several village chiefs have denied the claim by Labuan Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) that the allowance they received now is insufficient.

Kampung Pantai Village Chief Kamal @ Dino Sidek (pic) said a handful of the 27 village chiefs here have denied questioning the amount of allowance given to them. However, he did not say how many were happy with what they received.

“The claim made by Labuan Bersatu pro tem chief Datuk Suhaili Abd Rahman recently is not true,” he said in a statement Monday.

“We as village chiefs never highlighted this issue to him (Suhaili) as we do not wish to be involved in their game of politics,” he added.

Kamal added that they have chosen to follow procedures to avoid any conflicts of interest regarding the credibility and integrity of a village chief.

Suhaili had reportedly urged the Federal Territories Ministry to increase the monthly allowance of the village heads here, saying the RM500 they receive now is insufficient to cover their expenses.

He said the amount of allowance was among numerous issues highlighted by the village heads.
