Sabah resume promotion chase
Kota Kinabalu: Tambadaus’ team manager Henry Saimpon hopes the long break will not affect the players as the Premier League resumes this week with promotion chasers Sabah taking on Negeri Sembilan here at the Likas Stadium.

They last played against Penang on May 23 before the break for the fasting month.

“I hope the long break will not in any way affect the players’ momentum as the competition is getting tougher in the coming months.

“We are currently in a very good position to challenge for the top spot and to stay in that position, we need to continue our good run before the break,” he said on Tuesday.

The team had stayed unbeaten in their last five matches before the break with three victories and two draws.

The 1-1 draw with Penang in their last match has given them a total of 25 points to stay in third place in the table standing, only a point behind leaders UiTM and JDT II in second place, but with a match in hand.

In fourth and two points behind are Terengganu FC II while their opponents on Saturday, Negeri Sembilan are in fifth with 19 points.

“With only one or two points separating the top four teams at the moment, I hope the players will continue to give their best to deliver positive results for the team.

“One positive aspect from the long break is that I hope those players with injuries and fitness issues will recover fully and be at their best against Negeri Sembilan this Saturday.”

He added that despite the long break in the league, the team’s training sessions continued and the players only took a short break from June 4-6.

Meanwhile, Tambadaus’ captain Rawilson Batuil tied the knot with Emyliana last week with his fellow teammates and Sabah Football Association staff including Henry, coach Jelius Ating and secretary general Andrew Majanggim attended the function held at Kg Talantang 2, Kota Marudu on Sunday.
