Blown pumps cause of Putatan apts water woe
Damage to the water pumps for some Putatan apartments left those staying there without water for a few days recently.

A spokeswoman for the management company (MC) of the property said both devices malfunctioned on a Sunday in June.

“Our staff found that the pumps had exploded,” she said.

“There was a slight delay in attending to this problem while we deliberated over how best to proceed.”

She said the MC, eventually, replaced one of the devices and sent the other to a workshop.

“We managed to obtain a temporary substitute for the latter. So, by Tuesday morning, two pumps were activated to replenish the water in the balancing tank for the apartments.”

LIMAH of Putatan said she returned home on Sunday night to find that the taps in her fifth floor unit had run dry.

“I contacted the MC the next morning, when there was still no water,” she said.

She said this was not the first time that she had experienced water problems.

“For the past few months, the supply to my apartment comes and goes. Water is only available for a few hours each time.

“One of my neighbours reported this problem to the MC but the situation has yet to improve.” At the time that she contacted Hotline, she said the taps in her unit had run dry for three days.

“Me and my family have been going over to a relative’s place in Penampang to bathe.

“Since Monday, we have been eating out and depending on bottled water at home.” Hotline provided the MC and Water Department with the date of the recent disruption.

A spokesman for the agency said its staff had checked on the condition of the pipes servicing the apartments.

“We found the water pressure in the pipes leading to the meter for the property, to be strong,” he said.

He said it was likely that there was a problem with the booster pumps after the meter.

“These devices are maintained by the MC, so the residents would do well to ask the firm’s staff about this.”(SS)
