The company started its mining activities at Balung Kokos, about 30km from Tawau Airport, after obtaining the permit nine months ago.
“The mining area is now operating not exceeding 10 per cent of the total of 2,000 acres. Site clearing of about 200 acres were only for site office, road, machinery and mining,” he told a delegation of nine officers from the State Natural Resources Department under the Chief Minister’s Department led by its Secretary Mohd Jasmin Julpin and Mining Section Chief, Stephen Moligan.
Lo said contrary to rumours that illegal logging was being carried out, other than the 200 acres that needed to be cleared, the rest will remain intact.
“So, there is not an iota of truth that illegal logging is being carried out. We are transparent in all our operations and welcome checks from the authorities from time to time,” he told the delegation.

“To show our concern for the environment, the company built a water damp to resicur all waste. In Malaysia only two mining companies, including us, are doing this. Although it is costly to build, our company will always put the environment above all else,” said Lo.
