Latin America festival at Bukit Bintang Park

KUALA LUMPUR: The 11th Latin American Festival at Bukit Bintang (BB) Park, to take place on June 30, is expected to entice more city folks to experience the rich culture of Latin America.
Themed “Malaysia Meets Latin America”, it will serve as a showcase of the multi-ethnic and cultural diversity of Latin America and the Caribbean, as well as a fun-filled experience for visitors.

Peru Ambassador to Malaysia Guido F. Loayza said the event will increase the awareness of both nations’ culture and tradition, as well as a way to further promote the people-to-people contacts between the region and Malaysia.
“There are so many similarities shared between our countries and this is where we can learn from each other and through this festival, the similarities can be shared and exposed further,” he said in his speech at the 11th Latin American Festival 2019 press conference, here, today.
“There will also be live Latin music and dance performances, and lucky draw with attractive prizes such as two round trip flight tickets either to Mexico City or Cancun, courtesy of Turkish Airlines,” he added.
The annual event is jointly organised by the Group of Latin America and Caribbean Countries (GRULAC), in collaboration with Plaza Low Yat, Federal Hotels International, and the Latin Women’s Association of Malaysia, as well as receiving the support of Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) and the Kuala Lumpur Tourism Bureau.

Several embassies, namely Argentina, Brazil, Cuba, Colombia, Ecuador, Mexico and Peru, will host the event this year.
Meanwhile, Argentina Ambassador to Malaysia Manuel Balaguer Salas, when met by Bernama International News Service, said there will be a different offer from Argentina for this year’s carnival.

“This year, we try to bring more variety, for example, different dishes and cultural performances, as compared to last year.
“As our aim is to bring the best of our countries for people here to know about our values and culture, thus the theme this year really expresses that. We will bring to Malaysia the best of each Latin American countries,” he said.
Concurring with Salas, Mexico’s Ambassador to Malaysia, Carlos Felix Corona also said the different food, music, arts and crafts, and heritage of these countries will be a cultural experience for all to savour.
Plaza Low Yat general manager Michael Lee said with such theme, it is hoped that more visitors will join the carnival as all proceeds from the event will be donated to the Society for the Rehabilitation of the Disabled of Selangor & Federal Territory (PPOC), a charity organisation founded in 1972 with Prime Minister’s wife Tun Dr Siti Hasmah Mohd Ali as their patron.
“For our welfare fund through the festival, we hope to collect more this year,” he said.
