Safee still to keen to don national jersey

KUALA LUMPUR: “I’ll be lying if I say I want to turn down a call-up for the national squad.” This was the reaction of former national striker and the 2010 AFF Golden Boot winner, Mohd Safee Sali when asked if he was still keen to don the national jersey.
The 35-year-old striker, who had scored 23 goals in 73 appearances for the national squad, said if he was called up by chief coach, Tan Cheng Hoe, he was ready to prove his capability.

“I must be ready physically and mentally if I am called (to the national team’s training camp). If given the chance, I feel I will have no problem proving it,” he said after the super league action between Petaling Jaya (PJ) City FC and Felda United FC, Tuesday night.
Mohd Safee scored his third goal for the season in the match to help PJ City FC record a narrow 1-0 win over the bottom of the table team at the National Stadium, Bukit Jalil.
Speaking about the match, Mohd Safee said the three points were very valuable for the team, which was now in eighth place out of 12 teams, to avoid relegation to the Premier League next season.
“All the players showed their determination and worked hard to win because they know our position on the chart. Indeed, we faced difficulties at this match because Felda United is also in the danger zone, so their players also wanted a win,” he said.
