Bisayas get a RM3m building

BEAUFORT: Persatuan Bisaya Bersatu Sabah (PBBS) got a RM3 million new building that will boost its activities for the ethnic community, said its President Datuk Lajim Haji Ukin.
He said the new building will house the association’s office and cultural centre.

District Officer, Jupri Etok, handed over the key to the new building in a ceremony held during a Hari Raya open house attended by PBBS Supreme Council members and government officials here that day.
Lumadan Assemblyman, Matbali Musah, PBBS Deputy President, Hj Ruslan Muharam, District Council Executive Officer, Mohd Fawzi Abd Kadir , and Community Development Leader (PPM) Johair Matlani, were also present.
“The association will make full use of this new building for uplifting the Bisaya culture and customary heritage,” said Lajim, while thanking the Government for handing over the building to the Bisaya community which presently has over 25,000 members.
He said the building is also opened to other associations like Persatuan Brunei Bersatu Sabah, Kadazandusun Cultural Association (KDCA), Persatuan Lundayeh Sabah, Persatuan Kedayan Bersatu Sabah (Paadian) to rent.

“They can come and use this facility any time. The rental will determine by our Supreme Council later,” he said.
He also disclosed PBBS’ plan to open up daily stalls or special handicraft rooms for attracting tourists, saying that can assist the State Government in boosting the potential of the district as a tourism destination.

“At the same time, we will create a corner for exhibiting the Bisaya culture,” he said, adding all these can generate income for the association and its members.
