Trio escape in nick of time
PAPAR: Three people, including a 15-year-old boy, escaped with minor injuries after a lorry laden with vegetables skidded off the road and burst into flames in an accident along Km 38 Jalan Kimanis-Keningau, here, Tuesday.

District Police Chief DSP Batholomew Ak Umpit said the incident happened at about 12.30pm when the lorry driven by a man in his 30s along with two passengers were on their way to Kota Kinabalu from Keningau.

Upon reaching a downhill corner, he said the driver lost control of the lorry before hitting a nearby hill and turning sideways on the road.

Batholomew said the driver along with the passengers escaped in the nick of time before the lorry caught fire.

The case is being investigated by Sgt Abd Latif Husin under Rule 10 LN166/59, he added. 

Meanwhile, Fire and Rescue Department spokesperson said a team of seven personnel led by Kimanis Station Chief, Senior Officer Zainal Ali rushed to the scene, 23km away. Upon arriving, he said the team carried out operation to extinguish the fire and the victims were provided with preliminary medical treatment before rushing them to the hospital.
