Kolombong drains blocked, water stagnant

An office worker is upset about the poor condition of the drains along Lorong Kurma in Kolombong. MATT said water was stagnating in the drains which appeared to be blocked.
He bemoaned the foul smell coming from the direction of these structures, saying that the stench was most unhygienic.

“This is especially so during a downpour,” he said.
“On top of this, the water overflows from the drain after only a few minutes of rainfall, flooding the road and surrounding area.
He claimed to have first noticed this problem several months ago.
“Several factory operators have brought this matter to City Hall’s attention, but so far, no action has been taken to ease these drainage woes.”

Matt provided Hotline with the location of the drains in question. This information was forwarded to City Hall.
A spokesman for the agency said its staff inspected the area and confirmed that the drains were clogged.

“Our personnel also observed that, in some parts, the sediment inside these structures had not been removed in some time,” he said.

“We highlighted these irregularities to the government concessionaire whose responsibility it is to maintain these drains.”
He said City Hall would keep an eye on the situation to ensure that the drains were cleared. (SS)
