RM3.5m boost for Tambunan sports

TAMBUNAN: The Tambunan Sports Complex received an additional allocation of RM500,000 for the upgrade of its mini gym and RM3 million to upgrade the synthetic track this year.This makes the total allocation given to the complex at RM3.5 million, said State Minister of Youth and Sports, Phoong Jin Zhe, during his visit to the complex here Thursday.

Phoong announced a RM6 million allocation for synthetic tracks for Keningau Sports Complex, totalling RM3 million and another RM3 million for the upgrade of synthetic track of Tambunan sports complex. Both are badly damaged and will be implemented this year.
“During my visit, I saw the severely damaged complex track,” he said.
Tambunan sports complex was the fifth such complex that he visited after Likas, Penampang, Kota Belud and Kudat to ensure the conditions of the stadium and sports complexes throughout Sabah.
Phoong said during his visit, the atmosphere in the complex was so crowded following the SM St Martin annual sports event.

“I see the track condition as very bad. I understand that there is already a plan for the Ministry to upgrade and replace the new one.
He has come to know, since his visit to five sports complexes, including Tambunan, a lot needed to be improved and upgraded, which requires high allocation.

Phoong is aware that the government is now facing a lack of allocation and will strive to apply more for the upgrading of sports facilities in all sports complexes in the state.
