DAVAO CITY: The City serves as a microcosm of the entire country with the projects that Mayor Sara Duterte have targeted including making the city free from insurgents and for the poverty incidence to be reduced to almost nil before next year.

The reelected daughter of President Rodrigo Duterte has set four goals during her third term as local chief executive.

In her inauguration speech, Mayor Duterte stated her other agenda.

Mayor Duterte also eyes a more secured city and vows to lead economic development by prioritising more infrastructure within the city.

“Development in the next three years will be guided by the infrastructure modernisation for Davao City (IM4Davao), which was conceptualised with the gracious assistance of the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA),” Mayor Duterte said in her address.

She added the Davao City council will meet with the Executive department in the coming weeks to “plan out” programs that they will implement in the next three years.

“Let this be our guiding principle, while we welcome a robust economy, we shall at all times put a premium on sustainable development and our quality of life. That we have clean air, food, and water. I invite all Dabawenyos to be a part of this journey for our city, for our country,” Mayor Duterte said.

She also cited the Davao region’s economic boom since 2016 making it the second best performing region in terms of gross regional domestic product (GRDP) with a growth rate of 8.6 percent in 2018 alone.

“We aim to continue our programs that are catalysts for further growth and to see to it that we provide a business climate that is fitting to the needs of both investors and workers,” she added.

Mayor Duterte took her oath Friday morning before Judge Jill Rose Jaugan-Lo.

Meanwhile, Davao City Representative-elect Paolo Duterte also took his oath before Judge Rufino Ferraris Jr.

In his speech, the elected lawmaker said his main agenda is not only development and change but meaningful development and positive change.

“Our vision is not only for our beloved city to experience great progress because we also hope to see our progress spilling through the region and across Mindanao,” he added.

He vowed to legislate laws that will “positively impact’ the people and will “usher in livelihood, generate jobs, improve our infrastructures, provide education opportunities to less fortunate children and the youth, and bring about sustainable development across sectors, especially in the countryside.”
