Allocation sought to build Kemabong Sport Complex
KEMABONG: Youth and Sport Minister Phoong Jin Zhe said he will ask for a special allocation from the Finance Ministry for the construction of a Sport Complex in Kemabong.

He said there is a need to build a sports complex here as there are demands for it especially among the youth.

“I have been informed that the residents here regardless their gender are passionate about sports such as football, volleyball and sepaktakraw. Some of them also have already chosen to represent Sabah at higher level competitions.

“Therefore, the sports complex is important because not only it can be used for sports activities it also is a good avenue to unearth athletic talents.

“I am ready to consider the proposal to build the sport complex forwarded by Kemabong Assemblyman Jamawi Jaafar,” he said.

On other developments, Phoong said the Ministry will also be upgrading the motorsport’s facilities at Trek MX Kemabong so as to support the Tenom Motorcross Club’s effort in organising the Kemabong International MX championship in December where local and international participants are expected to participate.

In SANDAKAN, he said the Ministry would provide a comprehensive report on the damage sustained at sports complexes throughout Sabah.

He said the report would be presented during State Cabinet meeting.

According to him, the Tenom Sports Complex is among those that require huge allocation as its damage is quite severe.

“We will carry out a thorough study to determine which sport complex need to be repaired fast. But, as for now, the Tenom Sports Complex is in dire need of immediate upgrading and repair,” he said.

He said he would be visiting all 16 sports complexes in Sabah.

Sandakan Sports Complex, he said the damages have been determined at its pool floor and  bathroom and dressing rooms.

On Beluran Sports Complex, he said a comprehensive study will be carried out on the construction of a pavilion (astaka) worth between RM3 millions and RM5 million.

Meanwhile, on preparations for the Sabah Games end of this year, the Ministry has approved a RM3 million allocation to upgrade the synthetic tracks of the Tambunan Sports Complex and Keningau Sports Complex. - Mail Mathew, Winnie Kasmir
