PUTATAN: Nearly 3,000 people have joined Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) in Putatan, thus far, said Putatan Bersatu Pro tem Division Chief Datuk Seri Dr Arsit Sedi.
He expected more will join the party here considering the very encouraging response received including from members of opposition parties.

“The response is very encouraging. But it is not as easy as applying to join any other party. An applicant needs to personally apply, cannot through a third person.
“And if the applicant is already a member of another party, he or she needs to quit from the party first and go through a one-month cooling off period. Only after that he or she can apply to join Bersatu,” he told reporters at his Hari Raya open house held at his residence in Kg Sedomon, Petagas, here, Sunday.
Arsit said the Putatan division had already set up its division committee as well as its Armada and Srikandi committees, adding they have also opened up 16 branches under the division which is based on the number of district polling centres under Putatan division.
“In Putatan there are 16 district polling centres. So we set up our branches according to that number, so we have 16 branches. This is according to the instruction of the party’s supreme leadership,” he said.

The division strive to have at least 150 members per branch and they already hired full-time people to assist those interested to join in the division, he said, adding they are also working hard to get more members in support of Sabah Bersatu Chief Coordinator Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor who wanted to have 200,000-300,000 members in Sabah.
To a question, Arsit said there are also members of government parties wanting to join Bersatu in Putatan but “we told them we are not able to accept them because we want to avoid any conflict between Bersatu and the government parties concerned.”

“So our main focus are those people who are not member of any party,” he said.
