PAITAN: The Sabah Rural Development Ministry will leave no stone unturned in its commitment to develop the rural areas. Its minister Datuk Ewon Benedick said he visited even the most remote villages in the interior to see for himself and have a clear idea of the situation.
“We have a key performance indicator and going to the ground reminds me of the enormity of our responsibility to accomplish what we need to.

“The areas that we are concentrating on include sub-district Paitan which is listed as one of the poorest in Sabah,” he said in a statement here today.
Ewon said the government would do what was necessary to help resolve the various problems faced by the rural folk such as absence of roads, electricity and water.
According to him, the ministry had set aside RM4.5 million for the development of 36 districts and sub-districts.
He said the ministry also has an allocation of RM2.1 million for rural entrepreneurial development, RM1.17 million for the one district-one product programme and RM867,000 for the Kampung Sejahtera programme this year.

“The fund for the Kampung Sejahtera programme is rather small as we have 55 Kampung Sejahtera in Sabah and many of the villages’ proposals had yet to be included in the programme,” he added.
As regards poverty eradication, Ewon said the ministry has RM14 million for the development of Mini Estate Sejahtera (Mesej). – Bernama
