Key Tawau roundabout may reopen
TAWAU: State Assistant Minister to the Chief Minister-cum-Sri Tanjong Assemblyman Datuk Jimmy Wong said it is necessary to reopen a roundabout diagonally across Tai Yang Supermarket in Sabindo, here, to smoothen the traffic flow, prior to the relocation of Takada Sunday market on June 30.

Jimmy said there was a roundabout at the respective location in 10 years ago and the traffic flow in Sabindo area at that time was reported to be smooth.

The closure of the roundabout not only caused traffic congestion but affected the business of shops there.

He said this when paying a site visit with Sri Tanjong community development leader Koo Hung Eow, Councillor Philip Yap and Pemaju Mukim Lennon Lee Yung Chung. Also present was the owner of Tai Yang Supermarket, Lau Kuen Siang.

Lau hoped the District Council would again study the traffic flow plan in Sabindo to prevent serious congestion once the Takada Sunday market is relocated to Habib Sheikh Street.

Jimmy said he would take up the matter with new Tawau Municipal council (TMC), President Datuk Ir. Amrullah Kamal.

He also urged the Council to allocate more garbage bins to keep the street clean and tidy as well as whether there is need to put up more traffic signboards for the safety of road users.

The Takada Sunday market is one of the tourism hotpots in Tawau where there are 500 stalls selling various types of goods, vegetables, food and beverages at affordable prices.
