PAPAR: Michelle Euphrasia Liantup of Penampang who hopes to pursue her dream as a beautician was among seven awarded the 2019 Best Trainee Award at the Commerce and Technical Training Institute (ILTP) convocation.
The 23-year-old eldest of three siblings said before joining the institute she was interested in manicure, but learnt more than what she had expected after taking up the six-month Beautician and Hairstyling course.

“I was encouraged by my father who is working in the Human Resource Development Department (JPSM) to enhance my skills and knowledge in beauty practices,” she told reporters during at the 2019 First Series ILTP, JPSM Convocation, here.
With her qualification, Michelle said she would continue to work part time for her aunt who is running a beauty salon in Kota Kinabalu and further enhance her skills as a beautician and hairstylist.
Roslin Simpun, 28, from Tamparuli, who graduated with a Diploma in Information Systems Administration, also received the award.
“I was working at a hotel in Kota Kinabalu before I took up the course offered by JPSM.

“The three-year course was challenging but it did not stop me from trying very hard to obtain my credential,” she said.
For Alvizan Anding of Sandakan, distance from hometown and the institute did not exist in his dictionary, as it was his passion and ambition to be a skillful welder that made him the best trainee in the 6G Welding Technology course.

Alvizan, 21, the second of three siblings, said it is in his best interest to be a welder, especially involving a high-risk job, such as working in an oil rig or other oil and gas sectors.
“Before I took up the course, I was in the automotive field. After this, I will continue to obtain my Basic Offshore Safety Induction and Emergency Training (BOSIET) so that I can work in the oil and gas industry,” he said.
He said the course was not easy, especially theory-wise, but those challenges were not an alibi for him to give up and, instead, was a motivation to become the best.
Earlier, State Education and Innovation Minister Datuk Dr Yusof Yacob reminded students, particularly ILTP graduates, to utilise their skills and knowledge not only in obtaining jobs of their own choice but also think outside the box and become job creators.
“This will be a major contribution to the State’s economy whereby through the businesses established by the new industry players, they will not only help generate income for the State but also provide job opportunities for the younger generation.”
Yusof also assured that the Government would continue its effort to provide technical and vocational training, as well as education to Sabahans, in line with the Industrial Revolution 4.0 mission.
Some 126 graduates of the 2019 First Series ILTP, JPSM Convocation received certificates from Yusof.
