Sabah’s Nicole bags national BMX title
KOTA KINABALU: Sabah’s Nicole Belle Nicklos won the Girls 9-10 year old category champion jersey at the Malaysian National BMX Championship 2019 which concluded at the National BMX Arena in Nilai, Negeri Sembilan on Sunday.

The SK Kaingaran, Tambunan pupil accumulated an impressive five points to take the title, and the achievement was way better than she did in the BMX Championships held at the same track back in April where she only managed two bronze medals.

Two of her teammates also did well in the Girls 11-12 year category, with Drevionna Magdelynna Davin taking the bronze medal with 11 points, while Canney Paul Wong from Penampang also finished on the podium in fifth position with 17 points.

Sabah State Cycling Association acting President, Lenus Sampil was pleased with the achievement of their junior riders at the championship.

“We are very positive with the development of BMX riders in Sabah. Despite not having a BMX track to train on, we are optimistic that Sabah can produce champions as what had been achieved during Sukma Perlis 2014, where we managed to deliver gold medals in the men and women events,” he said on Monday.

Meanwhile, coach Nicklos Minol stressed the importance of training from young and competitions.

“We hope to train the riders from the grassroot level and also to give them good racing experience so that we can sharpen their skill from a young age.” – GL Oh
