Make MPKK appointments soon, Ranau MP urges
RANAU: Ranau MP Jonathan Yasin urged the relevant ministry to take immediate action to make the recommended appointments from the District Office, especially in Ranau.

“In Ranau, so far we only have the appointments for Majlis Pengurusan Komuniti Kampung (MPKK) for the Paginatan constituency, but none for Karanaan and Kundasang.

“Based on the info given to us, since last year, many of the names were already submitted but it’s already July 2019 (and many have yet to be appointed). We hope this matter is no longer dragged on.

“We want immediate action taken by the authorities concerned on this issue, so those in our villages are able to receive the services of their MPKK or other custom chiefs, for villages where those chefs are yet to be appointed,” he said.

Jonathan, who is also Malaysian Cocoa Board Chairman, said this is a matter which is viewed seriously by local leaders here which needs to be resolved as soon as possible by the Government.

He said this when officiating the Sambutan Hari Raya Aidilfitri Open House organised by the Customary Holders and MPKK Ranau at the Dewan Terbuka PPDK Ranau on Saturday.

He said those who have been appointed must execute their responsibilities as exemplary leader at village level, especially for those who held the post for the first time.

Jonathan said MPKK leaders must be creative in identifying allocation sources for the development projects in their villagers and not to depend on allocations from the Member of Parliament or Assemblyman, while at the same time sensitive to the call by villagers, including voices of the youths.

He also advised customary chiefs to deepen their knowledge on their jurisdiction in terms of native laws among the people in order to maintain the peace and harmony among the villagers.

“Firstly, there must be a habit among you to learn. Learn about what is needed to be done according to the functions and responsibility as chairmen and custom leaders. Read the books about customary laws like the Enactment of Native Courts.

“One does not simply make decisions based on his or her own opinions. Worse, one could be biased when making decisions based on their client’s political affiliations. This is not good. Everyone has the rights to be heard,” he said.
