LABUAN: Member of Parliament Datuk Rozman Isli is relentless in his efforts to speed up the economic progress of Labuan and has requested for more allocation under Budget 2020 and 12th Malaysia Plan.

This was conveyed during a courtesy call on Tuesday on Finance Minister Lim Guan Eng.

Rozman said as MP for Labuan, which is both a financial centre and duty-free island, he explained the present situation of Labuan and related issues. He also spoke on the need for more funds for the Labuan Sport Complex.

Earlier this week Rozman during a supplementary question in Parliament said since the new government was reviewing all mega projects to revive the national economy and in this content,  proposed the Labuan-Menumbok bridge be considered if there was private sector interest.

The Deputy Economic Affairs Minister responded by saying that the viability of the project needed to be ascertained.

The Labuan-Menumbok project had been proposed under the 1997 Labuan Master Plan and had been dragging on until today. Last September, Federal Territories Minster Khalid Abdul Samad said that the second feasibility study for the project which was approved at the cost of RM15 million by the previous government had been cancelled but the bridge had not been. The project would be considered in the near future.

Earlier in the month, Rozman also called on Prime Minister Tun Mahathir Mohamad to present the Economic Development Plan of the Labuan Development Foundation.
