TAWAU: A Persatuan Kebangsaan Melayu Tawau (PKMT) monument will be erected at Jalan Persatuan here soon, said the association’s Deputy President Ismail Awang.

“The construction of the monument was discussed in detail when our association made a courtesy call on new Tawau Municipal Council (TMC) President, Datuk Amrullah Kamal,” he said.

The monument will be erected at the original site where the association’s house was in the 1950s, he said, adding that PKMT is the oldest organisation in Tawau, which was established in 1938.

He said PKMT also discussed with Amirullah about the district-level Hari Malaysia 2019 Carnival which the association will co-organise with TMC.

Ismail they also briefed Amirullah on the association’s halatuju, effort to uplift the Tawau Malay community economy and to create a tourist hotspot in the district.

“PKMT proposals are in line with the government aspiration to make Tawau a tourism district,” he said, adding that Amirullah has given his support and advice as well as technical guidance to the association during the meet.

PKMT delegation was led by its President, OKK Mohd Ayub Kee Abu Bakar, where they also congratulated Amirullah for his appointment.
