LABUAN: The Labuan girl’s rugby team, which represents the Federal Territory, is intensifying preparations for its bid to enter the final round for the Selangor Federation Rugby Championship 2019 this weekend (July 13-14).

The team kicked-off its training since the last three weeks, and head coach Rashid Adli has announced the 13 players to lead the charge.

Rashid said he was aware most teams have prepared for this upcoming season, but he hopes Labuan’s team would deliver.

“If we want to have a good and strong team in the championship, we need full support from all the players in order to have decent preparation,” he said to reporters when met at the Dataran Labuan field.

Rashid noted the training had been interesting and a good test before playing in a real championship.

After the first training camp, Rashid noted his side still lacks good forwards and he hopes to see new forwards beefing up the attacking line.

The Labuan girl’s rugby team is scheduled to play against Terengganu team followed by the Kedah Sukma team on the opening day in the two-day championship.

“This is also part of our preparation for the Sukma 2020, and our participation in this championship will not be possible without the financial aid from the Federal Territory Sports Council (MSWP),” he said.

The latest achievement of Labuan girl’s rugby team was winning the Rugby Hornbill 7s in Miri, Sarawak in April this year.
