RM50,000 contraband fags seized

TAWAU: The General Operations Force (GOF) Battalion 14 seized 7, 860 boxes of contraband cigarettes, including salak tobacco, amounting to RM50,501.20 during a Strike Force Road Check Point in Kalabakan, here, Thursday.
The contraband were found inside a Perdana V6 driven in high speed by a suspect who managed to escape after abandoning the car in the 4.30am incident.

GOF Battalion 14 Commanding Officer, Supt Mustapha Othman said the seizure was led by a team from the GOF ‘Kompeni B’ team led by Insp Karmjit Singh Arter Singh.
He said the team was initially carrying out inspections and surveillance along the stretch behind RCP Kalabakan, when they spotted the black car in high speed.

This prompted the Strike Force team to tail the vehicle which was subsequently found abandoned at Mile 2 Kg Murut Kalabakan.
“The team tried to track the driver in the surrounding area but failed,” he said, adding that inspections on the car led to the discovery of the contrabands in 27 black plastic bags. The items were brought to the Tawau police department for further action.
