Sabah’s title coronation today
Kota Kinabalu: The Premier League match between Sabah Tambadaus and Kelantan here at Likas Stadium tonight (Saturday) is going to be a great celebration for football supporters.

Sabah Football Association (Safa) acting President Datuk Peter Anthony (pic) urged all football loving fans to come in large numbers as they will not only be watching the game but also witnessing the historic moment when Sabah will be presented the Premier League trophy for winning the title this season.

The Head of State Tun Juhar Mahiruddin and Chief Minister Datuk Seri Shafie Apdal are also expected to attend the event.

Peter said on Friday that it is a double joy for Sabah Tambadaus this season as they achieved their pre-season target of winning promotion to the Super League and winning the title with two matches to spare.

“It is a historic moment and a new era for Sabah in the Malaysia football scene, the fans’ 23-year wait for a title after we last won the Premier League (division one) title back in 1996 is over, and Sabah Tambadaus are also making a return to the top league next season,” he said.

He called on the players to produce their very best against Kelantan to deliver a winning result in front of the fans in their final home game this season.

“I want the team to continue giving their best and win the game against Kelantan tomorrow night.

“There is no excuse to let our guard down even though we have won promotion and the league title, instead we must show what we are capable of as champions.

“This is also our final home match this season, and a victory will be a best gift to all the football fans,” he added.

The match tonight may not have any significance for Sabah but it is a different story for their opponents, Kelantan as they are still in the relegation zone.

In the first round tie held early February in Kelantan, there was no winner as the two teams shared points with a 3-3 draw.

Meanwhile, coach Jelius Ating is expected to field his best 11 for the match tonight apart from South Korean import Park Taesu who is still serving a match suspension.

Another import Ahmet Atayev who missed the UiTM tie with a one match suspension will be back.

The starting line-up is likely to have Rozaimie Rohim in goal, with the defensive four of skipper Rawilson Batuil, Mafry Balang, Dendy Lowa and Evan Wensley Wenceslaus.

Ahmet will be back in midfield to partner Azizzan Nordin supported by Alto Linus and Jenius Karib on the flanks, with Rodoljub Paunovic and Aguinaldo Mendes leading the attacks.
