Bid to smuggle out controlled items

TAWAU: A local skipper was detained after his boat was found carrying various kinds of controlled items, believed being smuggled to a neighbouring country via Sg Haji Kuning about 1.45pm, Wednesday.Deputy Director (Operation) for Tawau Maritime Zone, Commander Mohd Yusri Hussin, said the boat was heading to Sg Melayu, Sebatik Island from Logpond Jetty.ADVERTISEMENT
“His four Indonesian passengers, including two women, aged between 43 and 64 were also detained to assist in investigations. All of them have legal documents and passports,” he said.
The enforcement discovered 4, 650kg of sugar on the boat.
Also found were 200kg of wheat flour of Rama-Rama brand, 250kg of Cap Murai wheat flour and 697 kg of cooking oil.Stay up-to-date by following Daily Express’s Telegram channel.

Mohd Yusri said all the confiscated items, including the boat, estimated worth about RM20,000, were escorted to the Maritime Jetty for further investigations under the Control of Supply Act 1961.ADVERTISEMENT
He urged the public to contact its Tawau Hotline at 089-752115 or MERS 999 for any information. He said Maritime Malaysia will increase patrols and enforcement duty from time to time.
