Cops haul up 76 in KK operation

Kota Kinabalu: A total of 76 people were hauled up in an operation carried out in the City centre, Manggatal, Inanam and Luyang, Thursday.

City Police Chief ACP Habibi Majinji said of the figure, 54 were released after National Registration Department (NRD) and Immigration Department officers screened and verified their documents and passports brought by their families and employers to the City Police station here.

While, he said 22 people aged between 13 and 67 were arrested for failing to produce valid documents comprising 18 Philippines and four Indonesians, including four young boys and two young girls.

“The six-hour operation that started from 3pm until 9.45pm were jointly conducted with NRD, General Operation Force (GOF), Rela, Immigration Department, City Hall and Sabah Electricity (SESB) officers and personnel.

“The operation was carried out in the five areas where the presence of illegal immigrants is high and to curb and monitor crime activities,” he said, Friday.

Habibi said all the 22 illegal immigrants would be investigated under Section 6(1)(c) of the Immigration Act 1959/63. 

He said similar operations would be continued and carried out from time to time and public can channel information to police through WhatsApp at 019-2182729 to combat crime and social ill activities.
