PAPAR: An unidentified person was burnt to death in a car that crashed at Km 45, Jalan Kimanis-Keningau, here, Saturday.
District Police Chief DSP Batholomew Ak Umpit said a witness passing the area spotted the crashed car by the roadside after seeing smoke in the air.

He said the witness immediately notified the authorities when he saw a person in the burning vehicle.

Firefighters from the Keningau and Kimanis Fire and Rescue Department put out the fire and extracted the victim, he added. He said the department’s forensic unit also took samples from the vehicle for further investigation.
The remains of the victim, whose identity and gender was yet to be determined at press time, were brought to Papar Hospital for further investigation under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
