Sabah finish  in third place

KOTA KINABALU: Sabah finished a credible third place in the Thailand Open Karate-Do Championship which ended at the Indoor Stadium Huamark in Bangkok on Sunday.

They collected five gold, three silver and five bronze medals behind overall winners Thailand national team who won 16 golds, 13 silvers and 16 bronzes, and second place TOFF Karate of China with seven golds, eight silvers and eight bronzes.

Sabah Karate Association (SKA) President Datuk Jake Jikulin Nointin, who was also head of the delegates was pleased the team with only 20 members managed to finish ahead of Sakura Karate Club of Thailand, as well as Karate Association of India.

“We are happy with the achievement but we must continue to work hard to achieve greater heights. We cannot stop training or sit back because it will not bring us anywhere.

“I hope this result will spur our athletes to work harder in training for them to be a better exponent, and we are looking forward to the 1st Shureido Cup Karate Championship which we will be hosting next month,” he said.

Meanwhile, the team won the gold medals through Nur Farhadylia Ershan Jr, Audrey Adreana Baking, Evana Joyce Ricky, Mukriz Mazlan and RJ Rowyn Ray Roger.

The silvers came from Marissa Eve Sikayu, Ameera Jnita Liew, Audrey Adreana, while the bronze medals were delivered by Chrisel Shazell Christopher, Pressy Misty Philip, Leong Jia Chii and Alyssa Jade Robin with two. – GL Oh
