Urine smell at Central Market bay

A CONCERNED member of the public is urging the City Hall to deal with the foul smell of urine at the parking bay for motorcycles at the Central Market as it poses a health hazard to passers-by and spoil the city’s image.
The latter has voiced out his displeasure about the problem to Hotline recently as he suspects motorcyclists and other irresponsible individuals had treated the unlit area as their regular toilet.

“I really hope City Hall can put an end to this problem because I frequent the market every weekend and the smell of urine is very strong whenever I walk past this area,” stressed LESLIE, from Penampang.
He said the corner area where many motorcycles were parked had become the “urinal bowl” for some irresponsible individuals due to its secluded spot.
“I think they did this at night or in the wee hours because the market receives traders and customers even at 4am,” he added.
Asked whether the area is well lit at night, he was unsure as he usually reached the market around 6.30am.

He also pointed out that tourists were also seen frequenting the same five-foot-way to reach several shopping complexes from their respective hotel.
“The public toilet is just across the road from there, why can’t they use them instead?,” he asked.

A City Hall spokeswoman assured that its personnel in the relevant department would be notified about the matter soon as possible.
