Aedes breeding grounds: 11 in Tawau compounded

TAWAU: A total of 11 owners and tenants at Taman Apas Permai, Mile 15, Jalan Apas, were compounded RM500 each for allowing aedes mosquitoes to breed in their respective premises.
Tawau Health Officer, Dr G Navindran, said action was taken after they were found violating the law under Section 13(1) of the Destruction of Disease Bearing Insects Act 1975.

A total of 77 premises were initially inspected, including premises which are locked and untenanted in conjunction with a two-day Operasi Gempur Aedes held from 2pm to 6pm on Sunday and Monday.
The operation involved 26 health enforcement officers from Tawau, led by District Health Officer, Rahman Sampe.
He said they issued notices under Section 5(2) the Destruction of Disease Bearing Insects Act 1975 on tenanted houses which were found locked during inspections.
He said inspections will be carried out on the premises based on the time and date stated on the notices.

The purpose of the operation is to control the spread of dengue through law enforcement which will be carried out in localities detected with the disease.

He reminded Tawau residents to take time to inspect their premises and work places under their care to prevent aedes from breeding.

He said the Tawau Health Office will not hesitate to take action against those found with aedes breeding grounds in their premises.
