Bids to smuggle out controlled items foiled
TAWAU: An 18-year-old local jongkong boat skipper was held during Ops Gelora Khas for trying to smuggle out control items meant for the Indonesian market at Kuala Sungai Log Pond about 5.30pm on Tuesday.

Sabah Region 4 Marine Police Commander, ACP Mohamad Pajeri Ali said, the jongkong was ordered to be taken to the Marine Police Base here for further inspection.

He said after a thorough inspection, the enforcement team found a total of nine boxes (containing 17 packs of 1kg) of Bunga Ros branded cooking oil, 51 boxes (17 packs x 1kg of Kapal branded cooking oil) and 55 packets (12 packs x 1 kg) of Gula Prai fine sugar.

“However, the boat skipper failed to produce the permit from the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs (KPDNHEP) pertaining to the control items he was carrying.

“The cooking oil, fine sugar and two units of 40 horsepower engines and the jongkong estimated worth about RM62, 497 were seized,” he said.

Mohamad Pajeri said the items are believed to be smuggled for the Indonesian market.

He added that the case was handed over to the Tawau KPDNHEP for further investigation under Section 21 of the Control of Supply Act 1961, read together with Regulation 3 (1) of the Control of Supply Regulations 1974.

Meanwhile, in SANDAKAN, the General Operation Force (GOF) Battalion 20 Beluran here foiled an attempt to smuggle out 25 LPG cylinders at the coast of Kampung Dandulit, Wednesday morning. GOF Battalion 20 Beluran’s ASP Ambrus Mohd Ali said there had carried out intelligence surveillance at the coast of Kampung Dandulit before successfully arresting the 30-year-old suspect.

Ambrus and his team inspected a Nissan Navara vehicle laden with 11 empty LPG cylinders which later led to the inspection of a pump boat anchored at the coast of Kampung Dandulit.

 

The suspect with the items he tried to smuggle out to Indonesia.

The pump boat powered by a Yamaha 15Hp outboard engine was laden with 14 tanks of LPG cylinders. The suspect also failed to show any documents or ownership of the cylinders.

The suspect and his vehicle, pump boat and 25 LPG cylinders were brought to the Sandakan Police Headquarters for further action.

The GOF welcomes public to channel information related to smuggling activities.

In SEMPORNA, Marine Police here nabbed a Filipino in his 60s for trying to smuggle out about 450 litres of petrol to the Philippines via Bodgaya Island at 6am, Monday.

Sabah Region 4 Marine Police Commander, ACP Mohamad Pajeri Ali, said the suspect on his pump boat was heading to the Philippines when stopped by enforcement team for inspection.

 

The Filipino nabbed with 18 jerry cans contained petrol that he was about to smuggle out to the Philippines.

“Upon checking, a total of 18 jerry cans containing petrol of 25 litres each estimated worth about RM5,836 was found on the boat.

“The suspect, who was also the skipper, failed to produce documents pertaining to the petrol from the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs (KPDNHEP),” he said.

Mohamad Pajeri said the case is being investigated under Section 21 of the Control of Supply Act 1961, read together with Regulation 3 (1) of Control of Supply Regulations which carries fines up to RM1 million per individual and three years imprisonment, if convicted.
