JDT rope in Malaysian-German goalkeeper

KUALA LUMPUR: Julian Johan Bechler (pic), who is of Malaysian-German parentage, is Johor Darul Ta’zim’s (JDT) latest signing, the Johor Southern Tigers announced in its official Facebook page, Wednesday night.
The 17-year-old, who plays as a goalkeeper, will be absorbed into the JDT III team.

Julian, via his Instagram account, expressed his joy upon signing his first professional contract and thanked JDT for the support and trust shown.
“It been a long journey until now but it is only the beginning. I am looking forward to offering the club the best version of myself and my new environment.
“I am able to work and improve myself as a good footballer and I am optimistic. Furthermore, I am passionate to achieve all the goals I set for myself and the club. I am looking forward to the experience and overcome all the new challenges and obstacles that awake me,” he said in his posting.
Julian currently resides in Frankfurt and has played for the Tus Hornau Under-19 squad.

He had previously attended trials for the national Under-19 squad selection which was then managed by former head coach Bojan Hodak, but could not represent the country as he did not have a Malaysian identity card.
His mother, Datuk Nooraini Anne Bechler is a Malaysian which makes him eligible to don national colours. – Bernama
