Work on S’kan Airport runway to start Sept
SANDAKAN: The project to lengthen the Sandakan Airport runaway will begin in September. Minister of Transport, Loke Siew Fook said, the project is currently in the process of appointing a suitable project consultant which will be finalised by Ministry of Finance in August.

“The work for the Sandakan Airport project will take 18 months and is expected to be fully completed by March 2021, if all goes well,” he said.

The good news for the Sandakan district was announced by Loke when responding to the question of Sandakan MP, Vivian Wong Shir Yee.

Meanwhile, Loke also said that apart from lengthening the runway of from 2,133 meters to 2,500 meters, his Ministry would upgrade facilities at the Airport.

This includes enhancing the construction of the new Connecting Taxiway, the expansion of aircraft parking area and reconfiguration, providing the new Precision Approach Light and related work.

He added that the implementation of the Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) should also be implemented as the to be developed area are marshes and river whereas its surrounding area need to maintained.
