 Safarrudin, Nurul emerge champs
SANDAKAN: Safarrudin Abidin with a 220 gross score won the 41st Sandakan Amateur Open Golf Championship 2019 for the men’s section at the Sandakan Golf and Country Club, here, Sunday.

Second place was won by Lee Ka Tung with Brandon Lai in third place while fourth to tenth respectively were Mohd Zariq Encho, Hii Haw Won, Chang Vui Khiong, Zaeem Jafri, Roslee Saharon, Mohd Sapre Abu Bakar and Lim Ching Tat.

In the ladies section, defending champion Nurul Syahirah Afiqah of Sandakan successfully retained her title with a 251 gross score. In second and third place were Eleiza Dora Mojiniu and Josephine Chu, respectively. Sajer Rechaldo won the Men Section (Net), with his 135 nett score. In second place was Liau Wui Hiung, Jubir Rechaldo was third while fourth to tenth were Afdlin Mikhail, Andi Adam Bachok, Noor Salleh Udin, Chin Ket Chung, Mustazama Jamarudin, Mohd Haziq and Mohd Japar Abidin, respectively.

For Senior gross winner, first place won by Yuen Kee Foo with 168 score, second place, Fung Nyit On, third and fourth won by Ong Teh Yu and Sazali Mohd. Jaini Abd Kadir with 138 net score, won the 12th Sandakan Senior Amateur Open Golf Championship which was held at the same venue over two days.

Second place was Dardie Sawal, third was Ahmad Barhama, while fourth to tenth were Chok Thiam Yun, Joseph Chaw, Pang Teng Hoi, Sam Hiew, Alex Lee, Juka Mohamad and Datuk Andy Chua.

The closing ceremony was grace by Sandakan Municipal Council President Datuk Peter Hii Chang Lik. Also present were Vice President Sandakan Municipal Council Mohd Hamsan Awang Supain, Sandakan Golf and Country Club President Goh Khoon Siah, Club Captain Henry Chu, Organising Chairman Francis Fung, Honorary Secretary Jimmy Kho and Co-Organising Chairman Lu Chun Mun.

Meanwhile, Abdul Muluk of Shan Shui Golf and Country Club Tawau, won the Hole-In-One No. 2 prize of one unit of Honda jazz sponsored by Wee Maju (Sabah) Sdn Bhd. At the event, Sandakan Golf and Country Club President, Goh Khoon Siah, also presented RM5,000 donation to the Hospice Association of Sandakan, Sabah and RM5,000 to Sandakan Kidney Society.
