New approach to large- scale paddy planting
KOTA BELUD: The government introduced the land consolidation model to shift paddy planting from a small scale to a bigger scale, said Tempasuk Assemblyman Datuk Musbah Jamli.

Musbah, who is also Kota Belud Farmers’ Association honorary president, said the government will also ensure the interests of all related quarters are preserved under this model.

“I suggest the land consolidation works are implemented by associations who represent the paddy farmers, like the farmers’ associations,” he said when officiating the Kota Belud Farmers’ Association annual general meeting, at the Datuk Musbah Hall, here.

The initiative, he said, will not bring any benefit if it is not optimised.

Meanwhile, he said the establishment of the Kota Belud Integrated Agricultural Development Area (IADA) is timely as it will promote precision farming.

“IADA will ensure the paddy fields will be managed by competent quarters who can boost the production of paddy.”

He also hoped the Kota Belud Farmers’ Association will continue to be strengthened, in terms of financial and membership.

“I was made to understand that the association is getting better financially with a fixed deposit of RM1 million and a rolling capital of RM998,000.

“This financial report will boost the confidence of all members who will continue to increase their investments,” he said.

During the meeting, some seven members were elected as the Kota Belud Farmers’ Association’s board of directors.

They were Madsah Jaragan, Marali Adim, Perman Abu Bakar, Jafri @ Jaffry Bilai, Muneh Sikin, Roubdin Mensing @ Rafdin Mensing and Idris @ Mohd Idris Kisab. Also present were Sabah Farmers’ Association deputy director Fitrisubroto Yahmin, Assistant District Officer Wahad Sidek and Kota Balud Farmers’ Association general manager Azlee Shah Abdullah.
