CM: Stakeholders will be consulted on devt plans in 12th M’sia Plan

Kota Kinabalu: CHIEF Minister Datuk Seri Mohd Shafie Apdal assured that all development plans outlined in the 12th Malaysia Plan drafted in detail by the State Government by taking into consideration of all relevant stakeholders.
These stakeholders, he said, include State and Federal Government agencies, non-government organisations (NGOs) and academicians.

“I am confident that all development initiatives and programmes planned by the State Government in the 12th Malaysia Plan will be implemented successfully with strong support and cooperation from all quarters,” he said during the question and answer time at the State Legislative Assembly sitting.
He was answering a question by Karanaan assemblyman Datuk Seri Masidi Manjun who wanted to know the focus, strategy, and approach by the State Government to ensure that Sabah will receive an optimised benefit in the drafting of the 12th Malaysia Plan (2021-2025).
Shafie is also confident that the State’s economy will endure any external challenges if all enablers and the State’s main growth foundations are strengthened.
“I would like to stress that all growth foundations, strong platforms and conducive environment should be developed to further intensify economic activities and generate more employment opportunities in the State.

“Towards this end, the State’s economy is expected to grow on the rate of five to six per cent in the 12th Malaysia Plan.”
As a way forward, he said, the State Government is determined to further develop Sabah through the implementation of various high impact development initiatives and programmes.

“I also welcome the wise inputs from all assemblymen to help develop our beloved State.
“I also urged all levels of society in the State to intensify their efforts to stimulate economic activities and improve the wellbeing of the people to achieve a stronger growth trajectory to become a high income and inclusive State, in line with the spirit of shared prosperity,” he said.
Among the high-impact enablers to be implemented under the 12th Malaysia Plan include the construction of a new Kota Kinabalu International Airport, Southern Link Grid, power generation project in the East Coast, Upper Padas Hydro Power Plant, and Papar Dam.
“The State Government will also strengthen the implementation of existing high impact development projects like the Pan Borneo and the extension of the Sepanggar Bay Container Port.
“Apart from that, the State Government will try to get an allocation from the Federal Government to extend the Tawau and Lahad Datu airports as both facilities had reached their maximum capacity.”

Shafie also said, the more efforts will be given attention to in boosting the progress of the State’s main economic sectors, especially tourism, agriculture, manufacturing and mining.
“Attention would also be given on value-added economic activities like commercial agricultural activities and downstream activities,” he said.
