KENINGAU: Lecturers and students from five Vocational Colleges visited Datuk Yap Yun Fook’s Evergreen Livestock farm in Bomboi, here, on Saturday.

They were Lahad Datu Sabah, Teluk Intan Perak, Chemor Pahang, Datuk Maharaja Lela of Negeri Sembilan and Pasir Putih Kelantan.

Director of the Education and Vocational and Training Division of the Ministry of Education, Zainuren Mohd Nor led the group.

“The visit is to learn how the livestock process is carried out on the farm as well as learn how the farming system works.

“We hope it will be of great benefit to students as through this cooperation we can send students to undergo on-job training in this farm,” he said.

He said the students could also learn the skills of the workers who have been working here for a long time besides the students being able to use the latest technologies in the farm.

Zainuren said that while all the students studying in college may not have enough equipment once they have been trained on the farm they can use real equipment.

“We hope the discipline applied in this industry will be learned by our college students.

“We just started sending students to this farm about two weeks ago. There are 15 students who have doing practical in this farm and for the past two weeks we have found the students very excited.

“This is because during studying at college, they have never seen so many cows. Since they have been on the farm they can see how the milking is being processed and so on,” he said.

Zainuren said how the process of care was done in this large farm was also a very useful experience for the students.
