City Hall to keep tabs on Likas streetlights
City Hall staff will keep an eye on the streetlights on the dividers from Jalan Istiadat to Jalan Kompleks Sukan, both in Likas.

This follows a complaint from a motorist about the lack of illumination along the road leading to the Kota Kinabalu Sports Complex and Likas Stadium.

A spokesman for the agency said the contractor tasked with maintaining the lights had been alerted to this problem.

“A check of the control panel servicing these facilities revealed that a mechanism inside had malfunctioned,” he said.

“The damaged component was replaced and the lights have since been restored.”

He said the contractor had been instructed to periodically monitor the lights to ensure that they didn’t breakdown again.

He advised rate-payers to provide City Hall with feedback on any irregularities involving their streetlights so that the agency could act on this as soon as possible.

STEVE of Likas claimed that the both stretches had not been illuminated for some time

He could not understand how City Hall could be turning a blind eye to this problem.

“It is appalling that the lights have not been promptly restored,” he said.

“Just consider the number of people who walk to the stadium especially when there is a football match involving the local team.”

He said fans from a wide cross section of society attended these games including the elderly and children.

“If any of these innocents are hit by a passing vehicle and come to harm, while crossing the road, at night, will City Hall be held responsible?”

Steve provided Hotline with the time and date when he noticed the problem with the lights. This information was forwarded to the agency. (SS)
