Call to replace ‘ghost island’

A CONCERNED motorist feels the “ghost island” at the Sigah roundabout at Donggongon in Penampang, should be replaced with a concrete kerb.
According to him, such traffic measure will not only improve traffic flow but reduce accidents there.

The latter approached Hotline on Aug 3, to complain about the penchant of some motorists misusing the left-most lane which is meant to proceed into Jalan Penampang-Kinarut / Papar Highway from Jalan Penampang Tambunan.
“Instead, they immediately swerve to the right to cut into the front line of the queue and sometimes without even indicating,” stressed JAIKOL, who noticed the situation usually happened at the evening peak hour.
Apart from that, he also urged the traffic policeman to summon those who overtake others through undesignated lanes.
“They shouldn’t do that because it will slow down the traffic along Jalan Penampang Tambunan and can cause road accidents,” he said.

He also said some of the errant drivers would show their rage at the driver who refused to give a leeway for him to cut into the queue.
“They will show rude hand gestures, verbal insults, deliberately driving in an unsafe or threatening manner or making threats at the driver,” he added.

A Public Works Department spokesman said the suggestion would be submitted to its superiors promptly.
“In the meantime, we advised all road users to refrain from overtaking others using that lane,” she added.
A City Traffic Police spokesman said its personnel would be notified to check on it soon as possible.
