Sheldon starts title defence with easy win

KOTA KINABALU: Six-time winner Sheldon Senagang kick-started the defence of his title with an easy 3-0 victory in the opening round of the 12th TKC Invitational Snooker championship at the Kinabalu Club (TKC) Clubhouse on Saturday.
He strolled to a 3-0 win over Hardy Mohd Ariff with a break of 75 points in the opening frame, which put him in a very strong position to win the highest break prize.

With the win he will next take on Nasir Jawaji, who also had a 3-0 win over Desmond Lai in his opening match in the last 32 on August 14, and also through to the next round was former champion Rasid Mambulusan who beat Chong Vun Beng 3-1.
A total of 66 players took part in the competition organised by the Kinabalu Club (TKC) with the trophies sponsored by club member Francis Ng.

The prize money this year has increased with the champion getting RM3000, RM1500 for the runner-up and losing semi-finalists each will receive RM750, while the four losing quarterfinalists will be getting RM350 each.
There will also be cash prize of RM500 for the highest break (minimum 70) and RM1,000 for the highest century break, with the prize money comes to a total of RM8,900.
