MAKKAH: Maktab 80, one of nine accommodation hostels that house the Malaysian pilgrims, has been selected by the Saudi Arabian government for its Green Haj campaign in Mina here.

Head of Malaysian Haj Delegation Datuk Seri Syed Saleh Syed Abdul Rahman said the campaign was aimed at keeping the surrounding of the pilgrims’ accommodation clean by practising waste segregation.

“The Green Haj campaign is an effort by the Saudi Arabian government which is run by Muassasah of Southeast Asia and for this year they have selected several exemplary hostels including Malaysian’s Maktab 80 and four Indonesian hostels.

“The campaign is another step of cleanliness, by keeping our environment clean we are interpreting that cleanliness is a part of our faith. I hope that Malaysian pilgrims can clean their tents thoroughly before leaving Mina.”

He said this after attending the launch of Masyair Cleanliness Campaign in Mina, which was also attended by Head of Southeast Asia Muassasah Sheikh Emad Fatani and the Rais (Chief) of Maktab 80 Ali Hussin Bondagjji.

The haj season this year saw 30,200 Malaysians performing the pilgrimage aided by 640 TH personnel.

Syed Saleh said the Masyair Cleanliness Campaign which has been implemented by Malaysian pilgrims since last year would be an added value to the Green Haj campaign.

“This also adds another value to the (Malaysian) concept of ‘Rahmatan Lil ‘Alamin’ which means that as we keep our own personal hygiene, the cleanliness will also benefit other living creatures as well as the environment,” he said. – Bernama
