Priority for necessary facilities: Jaujan
PAPAR: Funding for developments involving public facilities will be prioritised for those being used frequently to ensure the people’s needs are fulfilled, said State Local Government and Housing Minister Datuk Jaujan Sambakong.

He said it is vital to ensure that the funds used to develop or carry out repairing work are based on the importance and constant usage for the particular amenity so that the allocation will not be “wasted” on “unnecessary” consumption.

“It was mentioned in the Cabinet meeting earlier that previously a large amount of money was used to carry out improvement or repairing work on a small school when, in fact, there are schools with bigger numbers of students that were not prioritised.

“Despite the Government still trying to recover the economy, that (necessary developments) is a priority. I do not think our government has issues in implementing them.

“There should not be any issues with allocation. The funds will depend on what is being improved. If it is a necessity, we will give priority,” he told reporters after officiating the 2019 State-level Hari Potensi, organised by the Sabah Community Development (Kemas) Department, at the Salleh Sulong Community Hall, here, Wednesday.

Also present were State Law and Native Affairs Minister Datuk Aidi Moktar, Papar MP Ahmad Hassan, Sabah Kemas Director Shahrulnizam Jantan, Papar Police Chief DSP Batholomew Ak Umpit and District Officer Ghulam Rasul Hapil.

Jaujan assured that these developments implemented will not “slip pass” any districts in Sabah as it is the new State Government’s aspiration to deliver improvements for the people.

The Deputy Chief Minister also said this includes Papar that requires improvements to be carried out for the existing facilities in the district such as the Salleh Sulong Community Hall.

With non-functioning air-conditioners in the hall, he said discussions with the District Council have been carried out to determine the total cost for the improvement works for the facility as soon as possible.

“I have asked the Papar District Council officer in the technical division to look into this matter. This will not only involve air-condition installation but also wiring as well as other facilities that need to be completed in the hall.

“This is important as it is being used not only by one person or a group but the whole community in the district.”

Aside from the community hall, Jaujan said discussions will also be carried out with the Youth and Sports Ministry to upgrade the field nearby.
